An opportunity has arisen for an aspiring individual to work within the Community Safety team to deliver the Council’s ambitions for Basildon to offer a high quality of life for all residents through attractive, liveable, accessible and safe neighbourhoods and towns along with the provision of enduring facilities, green spaces and town centres that meet the needs of the community.
The post holder will play a lead role in supporting the development, implementation and co-ordination of projects, tasks and initiatives, to tackle anti-social behaviour and Hate Crime, as directed by the Community Safety Manager, in particular developing strategies to ensure the effectiveness of the Borough’s Public Spaces Protection Order and deployment of its Community Safety Warden Scheme.
The postholder will enable effective partnership working to promote community safety and will play a key role within the work of the Safer Basildon Partnership and the Safer Basildon Community Safety Hub.

An exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual looking to develop a career as a finance professional has arisen at Basildon Borough Council. You will join the council’s Finance, Commercial & Procurement Services department, working with friendly and motivating colleagues providing support and advice to other departments in order to ensure efficient use of council resources to deliver important services for our residents while realising ambitious plans for growth in our borough.
We have a strong track record of developing our staff, with previous Trainee Accountants currently holding positions as Finance Manager, Management Accountant, Financial Accountant, Principal Accountant and Senior Accountant.
Your role as a Trainee Accountant will initially involve shadowing members of the team in order to ensure you understand the processes and procedures. You will then gain practical experience working in our team supporting various Council services, before being given responsibility for supporting services on your own.
You will also have the opportunity to study for a professional accountancy qualification with appropriate exam and study leave given, and in turn we ask that you demonstrate a willingness to develop yourself including a commitment to personal study in your own time.
Preferably a graduate or part-AAT qualified (or higher) although other candidates who meet the requirements of the person specification are also encouraged to apply, you should possess excellent communication skills, be driven for improvement and enjoy working within a team environment.
You will be issued with a Microsoft Surface device and supporting equipment to enable you to work flexibly whether at home or in the office.

We are looking for a knowledgeable practitioner to fill the role of Principal Planning Obligations Officer. The role will focus on increasing compliance with planning obligations within the Borough, including input into new legal agreements which secure the relevant obligations. The postholder will lead on the production and maintenance of an Infrastructure Delivery Plan, and will be involved in a number areas of planning for the local authority, including attending pre-application discussions, meetings with developers and presenting at member committees. Previous experience as an Infrastructure Delivery officer, or Section 106/CIL Officer at either Senior or Principal level may be advantageous.
You will join the council’s planning strategy and implementation team, working with friendly and supportive colleagues and dealing with a wide variety of planning policy and delivery work relating to the future growth of our borough. Whilst the responsibilities of this Planning Obligations role are specific to managing the s106 and CIL processes for the planning department, the policy team is progressing a new Local Plan for adoption projected in 2027, and other key strategic planning projects, including a close involvement in the South Essex joint strategic plan. The Obligations role will be working in this planning context and you will therefore have ample opportunity to be involved in and contribute to these key projects for the council.

Basildon Borough Council is a dynamic and diverse place to work with ambitious plans in place for its future.
Due to the growth of the Council’s Internal Audit Service an opportunity has arisen for a Group Auditor to join our high performing team; externally recognised as fully conforming to the requirements of the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards and the CIPFA Local Government Application Note.
You will be responsible for the delivery of audit and assurance activity across a diverse and interesting range of customers and topics as part of a team of internal auditors. In tandem with the existing Group Auditor, you will act as operational lead for delivery of audits for our client base. To provide oversight, coaching and feedback on peer and team member performance to support their development.
The role offers hybrid working arrangements, with time split between office-based, on-site client visits and working from home. On a day-to-day basis, you will work with senior service managers and wider governance service colleagues to develop and maintain effective working relations.
You will have experience of internal audit, ideally with a public sector background. This will be matched with a sound knowledge of professional internal audit standards, and excellent communication skills. You will be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of risk, control and governance concepts and good practice, and how these relate to the work of internal audit. You will also be able to innovate and drive continuous improvement in our auditing processes, including sharing knowledge with the wider team.
You will be able to present complex information clearly to Senior Managers and other key stakeholders, and provide high quality, clear and concise reports. You will be able to deal tactfully and responsibly with stakeholders and organisations as you carry out assignments covering the entire range of services offered by the Council and its partner organisations.
