The Role:

An opportunity has arisen for hard working individual to work within Basildon Councils Sheltered Housing Department. As a Housing Officer (Sheltered) you will be assisting tenants and leaseholders with housing related support. This is a key role is delivering the councils commitment to safeguarding our older vulnerable residents and promoting health and independent living for as long as possible.

The main duty is to provide our tenants and leaseholders with a cost effective, high quality housing related support service. This will include identifying additional support services that may be required as our residents needs change, making referrals to other agencies if necessary and identifying any safeguarding issues for our vulnerable residents.

Basildon Council has 47 sheltered housing schemes across the borough which include 3 Leasehold schemes.  You will be based on site at one of our leasehold schemes to deliver a high quality service to all of the Council’s tenants and leaseholders within Sheltered Housing. 

You must have the ability to travel around the borough to provide cover in different areas if/when necessary.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

• You will need to work closely with other internal department and outside agencies to ensure customer needs are being met.
• You will carry out regular welfare checks on our tenants and leaseholders dependent on their individual needs.
• You will be responsible for signposting concerns and providing support to family, friends, and advocates or outside agencies to get the appropriate support in order for them to remain living independently.
• You will liaise with representatives on scheme issues and hold meetings with all residents on the scheme when required.
• You will be responsible for carrying out scheme inspections, logging and reporting any repairs/faults found in communal areas.
• You will be responsible for monitoring contractors when they are on site .
• You will have to respond to routine and emergency calls on the community alarm system, assess the situation and take whatever action is necessary.

Knowledge, skills and experience:

• Demonstrable experience of working in a housing/public sector role.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience of working with vulnerable people.
• An understanding of Housing issues.
• Knowledge of Safeguarding legislation.
• Experience in dealing with external organisations and agencies.
• Ability to travel around the Borough to cover other areas as directed by your manager.
• Must be fit enough to walk round schemes of various sizes including walking up and down stairs to carry out inspections and visit residents.
• A satisfactory Basic Disclosure certificate will be required.

We are looking for a Waste and Recycling Manager to oversee and manage the delivery of waste services and recycling programs within the community.

This role will involve leading a team, managing waste collection and recycling initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee day-to-day waste and recycling operations.
• Ensuring Compliance with all service standards.

• Manage budgets, resources, and staff effectively.
• Champion high performance and set high standards

• Ensure continuous improvement across service.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Experience in waste management or a related field.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Knowledge of sustainability practices and waste management regulations, including health and safety.
